Our Impact

Life can be difficult, but many people find that one of the best ways to find satisfaction and happiness is by helping to make the world a better place. Although bettering the world on a grand scale can be helpful if not admirable, but sometimes the small, simple acts of service and kindness make the most difference. Know your ancestry background and history of the immigrants and immigrant farmers who built the building and how they were able to build a community around them.

The FACPS community is making a difference in its community by filling the interests of those most in need. FACPS has been working to serve seniors in the local area and greater Seattle through activities, informative meetings, and especially, the foodbank through the PAEP Program (see Our Programs in the menu selection). FACPS is striving to fulfill other needs in the community.

If you’re interested in helping FACPS to fulfill these needs, below are 5 ways to make a positive impact in the community, because making the world a better place… starts at home.

1. VOLUNTEER
There are countless ways to offer your time to worthy organizations and people, because in many cases, time is just as valuable as money. You’ll find that you can lend a helping hand, but if you’re not sure where to start, the technology age has made it easier than ever before to find those different opportunities. Facps.org website helps you view and organize those opportunities to serve and volunteer. Search through the site and go to the “Volunteer” section. You can view the countless pictures and activities that match your schedule and abilities. Volunteer opportunities exist for community mentors who would like to teach cultural dances or other type of dances, create activities for the young and old, make visits to the elderly, and volunteer for the food giveaways.

2. BE KIND
Kindness is always a good idea, and definitely makes the world a better place. This could involve getting to know your seniors better, know how your association works, being friendly to people you meet throughout the day, and even giving compliments to friends and strangers alike. You could pay for someone’s groceries in line behind you—who knows, you might just start something. A little kindness can go a long way, so give it a try and you might be surprised with how it makes a difference.

3. HELP THE PLANET
Apart from the basics of conserving water and cutting down on waste and overall consumption, there a few specific things you can do to help the planet and your community’s environment. One idea is to start a community garden with association members, or planting your own. When possible, shop locally and utilize public transportation to cut down on your carbon footprint. Lastly, if you want to help your association or community look better, organize a garden or event.

4. BE ACTIVE
It’s important to know that knowledge is power. There are elections and voting that help you have a say but it’s vital to do your research and learn all you can about your association members and your local community. There will always be divisiveness in any association and/or community which is why you try to know your association members and community to work together to find the best solutions. That being said, do your part to be aware, attend association and community meetings, and learn and vote about the people and causes you care about.

5. PARTICIPATE IN CHARITABLE WORK
More than feeling good, nonprofits are a great place to start, especially since you can see exactly where their donated funds are going and find out what you can do to support causes you care about. If you want to do something good for those in need, make a difference by donating your time and efforts to a place you are interested in seeing growth and create opportunities.
